MELANIE
CONNALLY FROM
REEDSVILLE,
WISCONSIN,
is the third member
of their consortium.
Badger Boer
Goats is the
name of her herd,
and she has owned
some of our goats
for several years.
Snowspark's Buffalo
son was her first
billy, and we were
all sad when he
died.

Mother's
Day in
January!
7A+
Calypso-
finally
became a
mother
January
29, two
months
before
she
turns 7
years
old!
This
triumph
rewards
five
years of
continuing
effort
in the
face of
disappointment
for
Calypso
and
Melanie
Connelly,
her
owner
and best
friend.
Calypso's
charming
personality
captivated
Melanie
even
before
the goat
arrived
in
Reedsville,
Wisconsin,
at the
home of
Badger
Boers.

The Boer
nanny's
first
pregnancy
took place
on schedule
and lasted
almost long
enough for
the babies
to survive
before some
still
unidentified
catastrophe
made her
abort. From
that time on
Melanie
tried all
the methods
and
medicines
she knew
about to
help Calypso
have babies,
but the goat
could never
hold them
long enough
to be born.
In
desperation,
Melanie
turned to
her good
friend
Eileen Lamm
who also
lives in
Wisconsin.
Melanie knew
that Eileen
had a
veterinarian
named Emma
Ewing who is
famous for
her
expertise
with goats.
Eileen took
them home
with her and
enlisted the
help of Dr.
Ewing.
Through diet
and
medicines
they managed
to help
Calypso
finally have
those kids
that both
the goat and
people
wanted so
badly.
The
wonderful
news of
their
arrival was
the best
medicine
available
for
restoring
Melanie who
is currently
going
through a
bout of
illness.
Calypso's
next kids
are already
on the
planning
board, and
Melanie and
Eileen are
making plans
to show
these lively
twin nannies
as soon as
possible
along with
their
glamorous
mother. John
and Cathie
here on the
Divide are
as excited
as those
Wisconsin
ladies at
this
fairy-tale
ending
(beginning
rather.)
We think
Calypso is a
very lucky
lady goat to
have friends
who just
refused to
give up on
making her
life
complete.

Chief
Oshkosh is
Melanie's
new herd
sire from
our goats.
He is
Paintbrush
(Honey
Girl/Rainey)
and Liveoak
(Tobias/Kaptein
daughter).
That
good-looking
fellow
certainly
knows how to
pose for a
portrait! |
|
|
|
She has not had time
or dry enough/warm
enough weather to
photograph her
spoiled 7A+ nannies.
Well, two are
spoiled and the
other four want
their own way.
Calypso originally
trained Melanie to
treat bottle goats
like royalty. Then
along came Flashfire
who required coaxing
to co-operate, but
won a championship.
Annie Oakley is a
case study all in
her own right, and
she will be willing
to answer all your
questions; in fact,
she is sure to ask
you some questions.
Two of our best
nannies from several
years back found a
new home with
Melanie when their
owners in Indiana
had to give up
raising goats. One
is a Huggy/Cloud
Dancing daughter,
and the other is
from Bigfoot – our
other Kaptein son.

This

Melanie got Derek to
buy her at our sale
in Tyler. She is

The lady who bought two
of Melanie's wethers to
feed out and butcher
likes them so well she
sends Melanie pictures
as they grow.
