7A+ Extended Family

Barbara, Buel and Ken Wharton

Two of the Whartons – Barbara and Buel - are always at the ranch where they have their goats, but their son Ken, who is very enthusiastic about the goat operation, is traveling all over the country and gets to see his goats only occasionally. He drives a truck but studies goats by looking at websites and videos. Just how effective his research of the 7A+ goats has been surprised us when we got mature pictures of the young nannies the Whartons had bought.

What impressed us most about these pictures is the fact that the nannies look so much alike although they are from different parents. Then we began to study the pedigrees and realized that Ken had chosen goats who had very similar backgrounds. For example, Merrimac has parents who are both Tobias grandchildren. Chenille's grandfathers are both Tobias sons, and Kate Quigley has a Tobias son on one side and a Tobias nephew on the other. Matagorda has Tobias for a grandfather and strong Blue Moon on both sides.

Not a minor part of why these goats look so impressive is the way the Whartons have grown them off. It takes good care and good nutrition to make such big healthy goats. We think Ken not only did a good job of picking out goats, he also chose parents who are good goat keepers! We like to claim the Whartons as part of our 7A+ family.
