Mother's
Day in
January!
7A+ Calypso-
finally
became a
mother
January 29,
2008, two
months
before she
turns 7
years old!
This triumph
rewards five
years of
continuing
effort in
the face of
disappointment
for Calypso
and Melanie
Connelly,
her owner
and best
friend.
Calypso's
charming
personality
captivated
Melanie even
before the
goat arrived
in
Reedsville,
Wisconsin,
at the home
of
Badger Boers.

|
|
The Boer nanny's
first pregnancy
took place on
schedule and
lasted almost
long enough for
the babies to
survive before
some still
unidentified
catastrophe made
her abort. From
that time on
Melanie tried
all the methods
and medicines
she knew about
to help Calypso
have babies, but
the goat could
never hold them
long enough to
be born. In
desperation,
Melanie turned
to her good
friend Eileen
Lamm who also
lives in
Wisconsin.
Melanie knew
that Eileen had
a veterinarian
named Emma Ewing
who is famous
for her
expertise with
goats. Eileen
took them home
with her and
enlisted the
help of Dr.
Ewing. Through
diet and
medicines they
managed to help
Calypso finally
have those kids
that both the
goat and people
wanted so badly.
The wonderful
news of their
arrival was the
best medicine
available for
restoring
Melanie who is
currently going
through a bout
of illness.
Calypso's next
kids are already
on the planning
board, and
Melanie and
Eileen are
making plans to
show these
lively twin
nannies as soon
as possible
along with their
glamorous
mother. John and
Cathie here on
the Divide are
as excited as
those Wisconsin
ladies at this
fairy-tale
ending
(beginning
rather.)
We think
Calypso is a
very lucky lady
goat to have
friends who just
refused to give
up on making her
life complete.

News from Stony Field
Farm in Thurmont,
Maryland:
|
 |
|
Jerry Lee
has been
King of
Stony Field
Farm goats
for a good
number of
years, but
under that
regal look
beats the
heart of a
hard-working,
co-operative
Partner who
understands
his
responsibilities.
He does all
he can to
help Mark
take care of
those
helpless
nanny goats
when he's at
home, and
when they go
out in
public to a
show he is
dignified
and
well-behaved
as befits
the
representative
of such a
fine herd of
goats.
|
The great
expectations we have
had for combining
Jerry Lee's genetics
with Seven A Plus
genetics have been
justified. Look at
the kids from that
great big billy goat
and the Seven A Plus
nannies Mark
Spalding bought from
us.

This
Tobias-Eve/Alazan
nanny who is
ready to kid
again is the
mother of
the billy
kid Monocacy
whose neck
has a red
bar like his
mother's. He
is named for
a river in
that area. |

This fancy
nanny kid is
from Jerry
Lee and
Willownod,
whose
parents are
Icemagic and
"Toby-Wob." |

The Feather
Dancing/Alazan
billy – 7A+
Sabine – who
went to
Maryland
made this
pretty
percentage
kid from a
Jerry Lee
daughter.
Her name is
Cyclone 7. |

In the near
future
Sabine's
sister, 7A+
Cinnamon
Sugar, is
going to
show the
world what
her Jerry
Lee kids
look like.

Some 7A+ goats who went
north years ago have
found a good home with
Brent and Cindy
Foat at Bayview Farm
in Wisconsin.
Melanie Connelly,
Badger Boers in
Reedsville, Wisconsin,
sold them 7A+ Rosemary
who is a Bigfoot
daughter which means she
is old, but you can see
from the picture that
she is holding up very
well. From Melanie they
also bought Badger Boers
Conner- a son of 7A+
Flashfire and 7A+ Chief
Oshkosh. In addition
they bought two
percentage nannies who
are daughters of 7A+
Prospector - Pansy and
Bebe.

RON, CINDY AND
CAITLYN WADE of
Colfax, Illinois have
Hackberry Hill Boers. In
the fall of 2007 they
sold 7A+ Texas Keystone,
the sire they had used
as long as they could,
to Bayview Farm. Both
Cindys (Wade and Foat)
were good enough to let
us know immediately
where Glockomora's baby
boy was going since they
realized we always have
an ongoing concern about
the welfare of our goats
even though they have
moved far away from the
Divide. We feel sure all
these goats will be
happy at Bayview Farm
and appreciate the
thoughtfulness of those
ranchers who keep us
informed about our goat
family's whereabouts and
condition.

The Foats
said:
"We enjoy
having all
of out 7A+
goats, and
we have
Conner and
Texas
Keystone
(Tex) bred
to all of
our herd
this year.
That's 25
nannies. So
we are
looking
forward to
the kids in
the spring." |

sent
this

her
7A+

Santiago,

Atocha.
Looks
to
us
like
he's
baying
at
the

probably
in
gratitude
for
those
good
looking
nannies
keeping
him
company. |
