The Home Pasture - Geronimo

Geronimo the person...
We have all been able to see from his picture in the ads that Geronimo is a fine animal, a mighty goat, but what is he like as a person? He is a loveable, co-operative gentleman- with other goats and with people. Obviously he was raised by gentle, caring people who brought out the best in him, and he had heredity for a calm, peaceful disposition.

As soon as he got rested up from the trip he had to share his modest-sized pen with four fat nanny goats who were spoiled and opinionated. Too fat to be interested in doing more than eating up Geronimo's feed, but he tried hard to be courteous and watched as they gobbled up his choice hay. The only scuffle that took place was when heavyset Stormrise took on the bull calf who was eating that good hay from the other side of the fence.

Geronimo finally got to move to a much better situation with lots of room and lots of girls - many of whom were lean and energetic enough to want to start a family. His suite of pens protects him from areas where the poison weeds grow, but gives him room to go uphill and downhill and show off his social skills. We love to watch him so much we decided to share with you his different moods and different poses.

GERONIMO is the son of Farmworld Boer Goat’s Tarmac, who is following in the very footsteps of his father. He is a grandson of the multi-Australian National Champion, Farmworld Boer Goat’s Warlord. Geronimo and the other Australian Boers brought in by Tommy Clark traveled thousands of miles from Australia. They arrived in New York on March 9, 2005. They finalized their trip in Gainesville, GA on April 10, 2005, at their new home on Triple C Ranch.

A Comparison of 7A+ Alazan and Farmworld Geronimo

When our main sire, Alazan, died during the terrible drought of '06 before we could collect him we were dismayed. Then our other main sire, 7A+ Rawhide, also died before we could store any magic babies from him. At that point we nearly gave up; that's when we decided to sell most of our goats. However, just this summer our luck took an upward turn when we managed to buy the highly advertised Geronimo who has the same characteristics we have worked to build up in our goats. Look at the comparison of Geronimo and Alazan. See why we think this new goat from the South African genetics of Nico Botha will continue the heredity of our Alazan? He is the first outcross we've used since we set up our genetic pool.

FOR FOURTEEN YEARS WE HAVE CONCENTRATED ON DEVELOPING MEAT GOATS.
We are looking forward to the kids we get from our own heavy-bodied nannies and this new herd sire.

This summer we have been hauling some of our top quality nannies to shows. Here is what those show ladies look like. They are a good sample of what we look for in our goats. We think their characteristics and those of Geronimo are complimentary and will produce outstanding offspring. Not only do we expect good kids to sell but also ones that we can keep for our own herd.

7A+ REDSTAR

REDSTAR is nearly five years old, a daughter of Honey Girl's daughter Red Wing and the Kaptein/Kala son Zorro. We have always treasured her for her conformation and her kids. She is the mother of two of our favorite nannies - Mary Kay and Cando.

7A+ SUGARPLUM

SUGARPLUM is a loveable, affectionate nanny whose square backend and long, meat-covered body make her a valuable part of our breeding program. She is three years old. Her daddy is Alazan, a Honey Girl/Liveoak son we consider the best billy we have ever raised. Her mother is Liveoak's full sister 1B 56.

7A+ DENA ANN

Liveoak himself is the father of DENA ANN in a line-breeding combination we consider ideal. She is three years old now. Her mother is Tobias' full sister Adena Brew. Dena Ann proved herself a wonderfully tough mother when she was little more than one year old, during the terrible drought that made us lose a good portion of our kid crop. She had a nanny kid that we picked up to put on a bottle, then showed up a week later with a second kid that was a surprise to us. He was a billy kid that she had given birth to, cleaned up, fed and taken good care of in the pasture by herself.

7A+ STORMRISE

STORMRISE is an incredibly wide, heavy-built two-year-old nanny. Her mother Rainsong was one of our very favorite Honey Girl nannies, and Rawhide was a magic billy goat who turned out kids that amazed us by being so good. Stormrise is the mother of three good kids.

7A+ LADY TEN

LADY TEN combines two important families – the Blue Moon Dynasty and Symphony X. Her father is Lodestone who is from a Stetson/Honey Girl mother which makes that mother 50% Cloud Dancing. The father to Lodestone is Granite- more Perfect Ten and more Cloud Dancing. Lady Ten's mother is a Perfect Ten/Cloud Dancing daughter. She has already produced a good nanny kid.

7A+ MISTY MOON

MISTY MOON has just recently returned to our herd, and we are delighted. A year ago we sold her to Pam Arnold in West Virginia. She was good enough to let us buy her back this fall since her youngest child went to college, making it unlikely that anyone could get off to show Misty Moon. She is a Paintbrush/Liveoak two-year-old that we like so much we drove 2500 miles to bring her back home.

MISTY MOON &
her older sister 7A+ MOONRIPPLE

MOONRIPPLE went to shows this year primarily to furnish milk for her outstanding nanny kid 7A+ Sundark. We consider this coming four-year-old nanny a very good producer. Another Paintbrush/Liveoak nanny.

A third sister figures in our plans as well as do several other nannies that we kept in our small herd when we sold most of our goats last fall.
