Wheezie

Wheezie is a small yellow and white dog who first appeared to Frances and Jerry Nix as a very wild and scared refugee from some sort of situation where a tight collar had damaged her windpipe so much she still wheezes. She was at ease only with the horses, lived with them, ate from their feed pan at the same time they did.

The horses obviously considered the ball of fluff their own friend. And Wheezie considered them her very own family. When the Nixes went to a rodeo and hauled the horses off in their trailer Wheezie ran beside the trailer as far as she could, then lay there waiting for it to pass that point on its way home. She would fall in beside it and run all the way back to the ranch.

It didn't take the motherly little dog long to adopt the goats as well. She keeps watch over the kids. She still does not let humans pet her and hold her, but she realizes Frances and Jerry are her friends also. Just not as safe as the horses and goats, but OK people. And she does eat dog feed now as well as horse feed.
