Our Show Goats

2007 Season 2006 Season 2005 Season 2004 Season 2003 Season 2002 Season 2001 Season

The 2001 Season

During the 2001 season we went to two shows and were well pleased with our wins. At Kentucky, Elizabeth won Reserve Grand Champion. At Greenville, Texas, Honey Girl and her daughter, Red Wing, both won Reserve Grand Champion, and so did Bonanza. We haven’t ventured out yet in 2002, but we intend to see what Granite, one of his sisters, Chinkapin, and a Honey Girl daughter, Rainsparkle, can do. We know "If what you did yesterday still looks big to you, you haven’t done much today." But we are guilty of looking back and feeling a glow of pride at what our little goats have won in the few years we've been showing.

Someone asked us recently how many Grand Championships we had won during our career showing fullblood Boer Goats. We had no idea at the time, but it aroused our curiosity enough we emptied out our sacks of ribbons and began to count them. Knowing how inexperienced we were (and still are) we didn’t expect the result to be impressive, but we were pleasantly surprised. Our goats deserve the credit for whatever success we’ve had because we haven’t even had them in show condition many times when they competed, and we certainly don’t know any of the secrets about clipping them or presenting them in the ring. We decided to share with you the tally of what they have won during four years in the show ring. We haven’t kept a careful record, so we can’t tell you exactly which goat won what.
