Welcome to Our Ranch

We hope all those babies from Alazan grow up to make their daddy proud!

Our Ranch
We are John and Cathie Keblinger and advertise under the name Seven A+ Boers because 7A+ is our brand. We live 40 miles northwest of Kerrville, Texas, on Highway 41, on the ranch Cathie’s grandfather homesteaded in 1896, across the road from The Divide School. You’re always welcome to visit us. Just call first to make sure we’re home!

101 Years of Goats on this Hill

The year 2003 was the centennial of Old Billy's arrival on this ranch. He was an Angora goat imported from Turkey by my grandfather who must have had an arduous trip over the hills and down the canyons to bring him back from a sale held on the Nueces River, in Campwood, Texas. Old Billy was the first Angora billy in Kerr County and was so famous that the leading banker in Kerrville asked Daddy Fred if he could have the body stuffed after Old Billy died. Old Billy stood on display in the Charles Schreiner bank lobby for at least 50 years, and we are proud to still have Old Billy's trough made out of rocks cemented onto a flat rock.

In the picture to the right, Fred B. Klein is holding Old Billy with his dramatically long white ringlets of mohair in the pen that he made out of cedar posts so the wolves couldn't get in to the goats and the goats couldn't get out until he wanted them to.

The other picture is of some nannies recently sheared with hand shears.  They were the result of several crosses of Old Billy on the native meat goats which were the nannies he had to build his mohair-producing herd on. The long haired goats were such a curiosity all the visitors to the F.B. Klein ranch wanted their pictures taken with them.

Our Boer Goats
We have been raising Boer Goats since 1993 and have been striving continuously to build up our herd with the very best Boers we can find. From the first we have been focusing on wide goats with heavy back ends, level backs and good length of loin. Since we have been using embryo transfer, it has been practical to invest big money in a few outstanding nannies because each one can produce a large number of offspring. We agree with those big breeders who base their herd on a few outstanding foundation nannies, and work in outside blood lines by going through those nannies. Our foundation nannies are
  • Perfect Ten (Symphony X)

  • Elizabeth (That Old Kaptein Magic)

  • Honey Girl (The Blue Moon Dynasty)

When the Codi - PCI quarantine goats became available we started buying them and are still line-breeding from those bloodlines. Kaptein and Tsjaka are the original PCI herd sires whose descendants make up most of the foundation goats in our herd.
